Arm Lift Surgery

Atlanta Plastic Surgery Specialists, P.C.As summer is coming to a close, it is a good time to evaluate how you felt about your body these past few months. Were you confident wearing sleeveless shirts and dresses, or did you cover up your arms as often as possible – even during the hottest days? Have you exercised with little to no improvement in the appearance of your arms? If you have felt self-conscious or embarrassed about the contour and appearance of your arms, now is a great time to consider arm lift surgery.

As a part of the natural aging process, skin gradually loses its elasticity. It is unfortunate and quite unfair, but women tend to undergo this change more rapidly and more drastically than men. While a woman’s BMI tends to increase at a steady rate as she closes in on menopause, the loss of elasticity can lead to hanging skin along the arms. Heredity and significant weight loss can also have a substantial impact on the appearance of a woman’s arms.

Arm lift surgery is performed to remove excess skin and fat deposits from the arms in order to reduce the arms’ flabby appearance. This procedure is intended to allow patients to achieve thinner, more youthful-looking arms. An incision is created, typically in the armpit, in order to remove excess skin and fatty deposits from the arms. Liposuction can be used if large areas of excess fat need to be targeted. After the excess fatty tissues and skin have been removed, the arm will be sculpted by the surgeon, and the incision will be closed.

The recovery time will vary from patient to patient, depending on how much re-contouring was needed, but a full week is generally needed for complete down time. Patients will be required to wear a compression garment to reduce swelling and provide support for the tissues of the arms.
