Getting the Most Out of Your Phone Consultation

In the wake of a pandemic, many doctors are switching from face-to-face to online or phone consultation. You can get the most out of your consultation by being prepared in advance. Follow these suggestions and your consultation will provide you the information you need to decide your next steps.

Write Down Your Questions
You may have a pressing issue with many questions and while you think you may remember all of them, you probably will not. Writing down all the questions you can think of regarding your concern will ensure they are all answered. This will also provide clarity for you. Looking at a written question can help you decide if that is the question you want answered.

Whereas some questions may feel “dumb” to you, there is no such thing as a dumb question when it comes to your health. Your doctor wants you to feel comfortable with the information you are receiving. If you need clarification on an answer, ask for it. Also, remember to write down the answers you receive.

Chances are, the answers you get to the questions asked will not stick in your memory. Therefore, it is important that you write those answers down. An hour from now, most likely you will have forgotten half the conversation you had with your doctor. Writing down the highlights will help you remember.

Write Down Your Symptoms
In addition to writing down your questions, write down a detailed list of symptoms. Unless you are doing a video call, your doctor will not be able to see what you are talking about. In order to provide the best information, your doctor will need to have a clear idea about your symptoms.

Have a List of Medications and Supplements

Your doctor may need to know what medications you are currently taking. Have a list of medications and supplements handy. Keep in mind, supplements can also have an effect on the body, so be sure to include them on your list.

Wrapping It Up
To get the most out of your call, get a recap from your doctor before ending the call. You may need to have some information repeated or clarified. A recap makes sure you are both on the same page and it allows you to ask any final questions you may have.
